Katakolon is the port the cruises use to stop for Olympia, Greece. the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
We had a fantastic group of twelve on our cruise, and instead of going with the shore excursion offered by Celebrity, we decided to book a full-day trip through Viator. Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend the specific trip we chose because there wasn’t anyone to explain the Olympic site to us. However, it was still an amazing experience standing on the very spot where chariot races took place and where the original runners competed! We even got to see some archaeologists making discoveries, which was really exciting. The highlight for most of us was definitely the visit to a local winery. We all enjoyed it immensely! Plus, the views of the Greek countryside were absolutely stunning. Overall, it was a memorable day!
They are still digging things up! I know one thing they will not find…. Clothes! They participated in all the games nude! Can you imagine doing the 100 yard dash without clothes????– Elle
The Greek wine was okay in my mind. It seems like they have the climate to make fine wines as its hot and dry. I have a new world palate and love deep fruity reds so most of the reds were a little light for me. My friends who enjoy white wine found the Greek wines very tasty. Its all up to your taste but for $10 euros a bottle you couldn’t complain too much! 🙂
