Recent Visited Countries

As I’m developing this blog, I’m including my most recent month long trip to the Greek Isles and Sicily. Then I will go back to my past countries and experiences to include tips for all of the places I have been the last few years since retiring! I will be sharing all the ins and outs of what I’ve learned so you can get it right the first time! So if you are planning a trip to a particluar country, check out this page for inspiration!

Greece and the Greek Islands

Athens

If you have been to the Acropolis and seen the changing of the guards already, head to the Greek Kitchen to cook with Vasia as the head chef. She is hysterical and you cook up a very yummy meal. Think….My Big Fat Greek Wedding!

Olympia

Watch the archeologists discover new artifacts at the site of the original Olympics in Olympia! They arranged these games to stop the Greek men from fighting amongst themselves. So instead, the government organized games to compete, and this reduced the fighting amongst themselves! Brilliant!

Santorini

I had been told that this island is the most beautiful place in the world. I’m not sure I agree with that but it’s up there for beauty for sure! It’s basically a rock with beautiful white houses and bougainvillea. There are two main towns: Oia (pronounced EE-YA – no “O”) and Fira which is a little more bustling.

Mykonos

In Mykonos town there’s a little section called Little Venice with cute mazes of shops! Of course, I loved it, but Ray was not a fan 🙂 Go with your girlfriends or someone who likes to browse!

Rhodes

Who would have thought this was such a beautiful island! Much Greener than Santorini and Mykonos. We found out it has nothing to do with the Rhodes Scholar. I thoroughly enjoyed this island and the visit to the Grand Masters palace.

Malta

Although not a part of the Greek Islands, Malta was one of the cruise stops. We enjoyed our visit and instead of a tour just decided to have a taxi drive us around. I would recommend this way because when visiting the Blue grotto pictured above there are no taxis to take you back. So best to just get the taxi to take you everywhere including the medieval city of Mdina.
